The Area

The Area, and Things to Do

Didim and Altinkum offer a wide choice of activities for the adventurous visitor, as well as being an ideal location for a quiet relaxing break or for exploring this area of Turkey. In Didim is the historic site of the ancient Temple of Apollo where the Oracle was famous throughout the Aegean region.

The town below the ruins is the busy commercial area, with a choice of large supermarkets for all your needs as well as numerous shops and smaller mini-markets for smaller buys and daily bread - an essential part of any Turkish meal.

There are restaurants and bars for quick snacks or full meals - Turkish pide (pizza) and soups are tasty and filling, and the local beer, ‘Efes’, has some dedicated supporters! You can find modern pattisseries - Turkish baklava is a ‘must try’ if you have a sweet tooth! - and lokum (Turkish delight). And of course there are kebabs to enjoy, and pilaf (rice dishes), vegetarian and fish dishes too...! Shopping at the local market gives you the chance to try your hand at haggling, perhaps over a cup of Turkish or apple chai (tea).
