The beaches in Altinkum slope gently and are safe for families with young children and the elderly alike. A heaven for sunbathers, there is a good supply of beds and umbrellas to hire. For the more active, wind surfers, jet skis, banana boats and pedalos are available in the main season. |
Despite modernisation, wherever you go in Didim you will be sure to find the local Turkish atmosphere and renowned hospitality. It is not necessary to speak Turkish as English is widely spoken and the residents of Didim and Altinkum offer a warm welcome to their guests. |
The area is central to many of Turkey’s archaeological sites such as Miletos, world famous Ephesus, and Priene, and places of interest such as Lake Bafa national park and the Buyuk Menderes River (historically called the "Maeander", from which the word "meander" derives). |
Didim has its own microclimate and benefits from in excess of 300 days of sunshine a year and warm winters. The area (especially Altinkum and the nearby village of Akbuk) is reputed to have health benefits for asthma sufferings and for those with chest conditions. |
